Mountsorrel & Rothley Community Heritage Centre
The Heritage Centre is a modern building constructed, in part, from three historic buildings. It forms the heart and gateway to our attractions.
Granite’s Coffee Shop is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm, serving teas, cakes and light lunches. Our aim is for Granite’s to be renowned for its high level of customer care and satisfaction.
Beyond Granite’s our Heritage Rooms aims to educate and inform you about the rich and diverse history surrounding the villages of Mountsorrel and Rothley. The displays continue on the first floor and will change regularly.
On the first floor, accessed via a lift, we have our Quiet Room which provides somewhere for visitors with an illness or disability to take a few minutes out of their visit to administer their medication or just to have a quiet rest.
Outside you will find our Children’s play area and additional seating overlooking the railway and nature trail.
You will find the Heritage Centre is disabled, wheelchair, pushchair, child and baby friendly with free wi-fi throughout.

Nunckley Nature Trail
Our Ecology Group volunteers have created a new nature and history trail through the woodland south of Nunckley Hill. The path is a circular half mile long route that is accessed via a foot-crossing next to Nunckley Hill station platform. For disabled visitors who can’t traverse the steep path from the station platform, access is available via Swithland Lane. Please see staff in the Granite’s coffee shop who will be able to give you access.
Nunckley Hill Station
The restored Mountsorrel Railway passes through the Heritage site and a new station has been created to allow visitors to ride a heritage train along the branch line. Note that trains only run on a limited number of days. With interesting twists and turns of the railway there is much to see from the carriage window. The return trip behind a steam train or heritage diesel takes about 25 minutes. You can board or leave the train at Mountsorrel Station to visit the nearby Stonehurst Family Farm and Motor Museum. In the future it is hoped to build a third station at the Swithland end of the line to allow passengers to visit a picnic area and to watch the trains pass on the Great Central Railway main line.
On selected days each year trains will run from the Mountsorrel Railway onto the GCR main line, allowing visitors to ride from Mountsorrel Station, or the Heritage Centre, to Leicester or Loughborough.
