Barrow in Bloom

Barrow in Bloom was originally started in early 2019 for voluntary groups to work together to help improve areas within the village with a view we could then enter and compete successfully in East Midlands in Bloom. We wanted to showcase our wonderful village, our volunteers, and our community!

Our aim is to work alongside some of the established groups in the village, such as the Gardening Club, Barrow Open Gardens and BUSCA to promote the RHS Britain in Bloom’s three core pillars of:

* Horticultural Achievement
* Environmental Responsibility
* Community Participation

For further information about the event and our participation in it, please follow this link: East Midlands in Bloom Competition

Interested in volunteering? Please email barrowinbloom@gmail.com if you wish to join any of our activities.

Award Winners 2022

Our volunteers were honoured to be nominated for 2 awards during 2022.

All Bloom volunteers were recognised in the Rural Community Council Awards (Leicestershire and Rutland) in November where we won the Rural Environment Award.

Our Footpaths Group were recognised by Charnwood Borough Council and were presented with a Charnwood Community Heroes Top Team award in June 2022

Barrow in Bloom Projects

Volunteers from all of our groups also help out with one-off projects to improve specific areas around the village. Our recent projects have included: Blooming up Bridge Street, Holy Trinity Rose Gardens, and Barrow Deep Lock - to name just a few!

These projects normally require funding to proceed and therefore can take time to gain approval to go ahead. If you can help in any way, please do get in touch. If you have ideas about areas that need some attention, let us know. Sometimes plans have to be made or changed at short notice so we stay in touch with volunteers by email.

Find more information on our current projects here.

Updates - General:

Becoming at Constituted Group:

With more volunteers coming forward with their support and enthusiasm in November 2020 we have decided to become a 'constituted' group which will allow us to begin applying for funding to support our existing voluntary groups and to undertake more projects around the village.

These projects will hopefully benefit the village for years to come and can also form part of our entry into the annual East Midlands in Bloom Competition.

Partner Group with Canal & River Trust:

We formed a Partner Group with the Canal & River Trust in September 2020, and we will continue to form other partnerships with organisations such Charnwood Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council, as well as working with local groups and businesses.

Updates - Funding:
